JERRY'S KIDS
Every year since I was a kid, we have watched the MDA Telethon on Labor Day. Nowadays, it is just a ritual-though the telethon itself has become a bit of a joke, I still hold a place in my heart for the golden age of the Jerry Telethon-when I would make Jeannette & Mary stay up late with me & cheer for the kids in the wheelchairs-and because we almost always have a brunch or a party of some kind- I am always sure to send some money, just to say thanks for the memories.. and now that I proof read this I realize: Holy crap. I am officially a middle aged person. Oy.

Spiders We No Likee

Ryan & Emily when they were still pretty little.....

Emily had to go to the doctor and miss the morning of her third day of school-she had giant welts up & down her right side, 4 inches across, raised, red & warm to the touch-those MEAN spiders again. This happens to her when it gets hot-the spiders come in and have a party while she is asleep. I know she is delicious, but this is ridiculous. The antibiotics are starting to work already, so I can relax a bit...which I need to do, because yesterday when we went to get Ryan at his new middle school, he was nowhere to be seen...he is on his own this year, without a one on one aide for the first time, and he's been doing pretty well-but I just about had a heart attack when the school had cleared out & no one knew where he was. Finally he was spotted in the middle of campus. He had decided it would be a good idea to go walk on the new fallen leaves and listen to them crunch....In the words of George Bailey's mother, "Land- my blood pressure"

...........25 Years Together.........

Billy & I "got together" 25 years ago yesterday-and every year we have had the same dinner I made that night in 1982 (chicken roll ups). This year, I got some very beautiful roses. We had a little bit of time for reflection, but not much. School started this morning for Em & Dad. Back to real life... the kids decided to join in the festivities by dressing up & being strange. Genetics, I guess.

This is me with Ryan decorating cookies for Santa (and us). Ryan went to day 2 of Middle School today; his first year of school with no one-on-one aide. This is, of course, harder for me than it is for him. Adjusting to an entirely new school with all new people is tough for ANY kid, let alone a kid with Aspergers. Today he had to go to PE for the first time. He can only change his shirt for PE, because he wears braces, and if he comes in contact with any rubber (balls, etc.), he runs the risk of an anaphylactic reaction (throat closing up), as he is severely allergic to latex. AHHH what a relaxing day for me.....not
