We're still here: 2007

We are still here, my wonderful husband & my sweet children. I like December because it makes me stop & think. Slow down. Look next to me. There is usually at least one healthy, warm person at my side when I am in this house I love. There are lights, chairs, beds and heat; a tree, and hope. There is a chance that maybe we, as a race, will get past this phase in history, and move on to a better day. This is Christmas to me. Love of life means hope to me. We are the new day.

Billy's Village...must be December!

CHRISTMAS IS COMING. Has YOUR Goose gained the proper amount of weight yet??

Well, it's almost here and my kids are anxiously awaiting their flat screen TVs and new laptop computers. It's gonna be LONG wait....here is our lovely tree, this year complete with TINSEL! Didn't even know if they made tinsel anymore-but I found some. Emily & I put it on the tree, and in my head I heard my Grandmother, Gawkie (yes, Gawkie) telling me "One strand at a time. Drape it, don't throw it...ONE AT A TIME!!" Then my brother would put on one BOX of tinsel on a tree branch just to drive her bananas. Pretty funny. So now, we sing the "That Girl" theme song-or, at least what I THOUGHT the words were when I was a kid : "She's tinselonitry..." Billy's was even better. He thought it was " Broadway..is that girl! She's insalodatry...she's everything that every girl should beeeee!" Please do not ask me what the heck INSALODATRY is, 'cause I don't know. Must be a kin to the "Hello Dolly" lyric: 'I feel the room swayin' 'cause the band's playin' one of your old favorite songs from Wueba Gwen..."

And now, a shot of our cool Nativity that Billy's parents gave us in 1986, then a shot of Jane's Nativity from the Philippines...the one that would come out every year and Jane would worry about losing the "tiny pieces." My favorite figure is the little chicken...there is also a pig. Come on, double click on the bottom picture & find that Christmas chicken! Too funny.

Hmmmm. After double clicking on this picture, I notice you can't really see the chicken. He's in front of the little girl kneeling,,,and not only that: the pig appears to have fallen on his side. Too much Egg Nog.

Christmas Tree Patch

Well, it's not really our usual Christmas Tree Patch. Our beloved Pumpkin Patch finally got the axe this year, and it was the same lot where we would get our tree each ear. It had a real choo choo, real live animals & all kinds of fun stuff. We are all very sad that it's gone-but we found a pretty good tree place yesterday. It has a giant Santa, pictured here with the kiddies, who look like semi adults...

THANKS, AMBER!!! I took a zillion pictures for our Christmas card, all putrid; Amber comes over & takes about 25, with too many good ones to choose from...but here's the winner. Pretty cute. If you're on our list, you'll be getting a hard copy soon. I know this is what you all live for . =P

ENJOY SHOPPING EVERYONE!

Ah, the Holly Days

Nothing like another holiday time to get your blood pumping. Am I ready? Sure-all done! Gifts bought & wrapped; the tree is up. All I have to do now is sit back & enjoy...........NOT. It's December 6, and I am still in denial. I am the Queen of Denial.
A nice little get away happened today: the fourth grade field trip to Mission San Juan Bautista. Rainy, cold, far away, and a bunch of 9 year olds....hormones beginning to boil-but I had fun. At least I was forced to forget about how behind I am in the Christmas department- I mean, what can ya do about it when you are in San Juan Bautista?? Nuthin'! Here are a few pictures of my darling daughter, still my little baby for another minute or two before she grows WAY up, running around with her buds and her VERY young teacher, Mrs. Wu. If you click on a picture, you can see it close up. Yeah- she is young. I am pretty sure I graduated High School about 4 years before Mrs. Wu's mom got pregnant with her. WHATever!

My Charming & Sophisticated Children

I am in the process of trying to get a decent picture of my giant offspring for our annual Christmas card. Of course, out of 20 pictures, exactly ZERO were any good. This is one of the better ones. sigh.

Many Thanks Were Given!

Suzette was our Thanksgiving Day slave-she hosted and cooked & cleaned. Pretty cool! I am still giving thanks that it was not at MY house! =0)

The tables were lovely, the kids were lovely...

The VIEW from my brother & sister in law's back yard in Benicia is awesome-you can see water, boats, trains, sky, palm trees..you name it. Beautiful.

Julie had her actual 50th birthday on Turkey Day, which she was SO happy about!! 50 is the NEW 30! Yeah, that's the ticket!

I think we all got enough to eat. Ummmmmm, yeah.

New "Milestones"-Ryan's Play Date

Yes, I said Ryan's, not Emily's play date. Em has had probably 60 playdates at age 9. Ryan has had two friends over in his life, and he is 11. He is diagnosed as Autistic, but no one has ever found a hole he fits in to, no matter how hard everyone tries! He has been asking to have David (an eighth grader in his class) over for a few weeks. When he kept asking, I guessed he maybe meant it. Sometimes he just says things but does not really want them to become a reality-but this, I could tell, was different. He even managed to get David's phone number, and a few days ago, he picked up the phone and called him. This is a first. Their idea of a get together may be very different from yours and mine, but who cares? He had a friend over. They played DS side by side. They played Wii Sports. They spoke in a strange manner to each other. They had a snack. They even laughed here & there. They seem to get each other in a way I really can't. This has made me feel happy-because I had accepted that Ryan is different from the start, but never knew if he would be lonely as an adult. WE think he is hilarious, adorable, interesting and brilliant, but I often wondered how his manner would fly "out there". I think he's gonna be okay.

SLEEPOVER!!

Well, we struck the Haunted Mansion, and today we set up the PINK PARTY. The cake was made, the living room a lovely shade of pink. Then the waiting began. All day. Waiting. Here is Emily, waiting. Asking me every 20 minutes: "How much longer???" Waiting.

Finally, all the girls got here. LOTS of screaming, hyper hyper hyper. Oy. Everyone had In & Out burgers for dinner. Pinata. Presents. More screaming. And now, DS time. Is it over yet??? Can I go to bed now? Oh, wait-we still have to do cake. I am too old for this. =0)

Em's Birthday

I guess every parent just cannot believe that the baby is growing up, and MUCH too quickly. I am so sad to see the baby go, and yet so happy to be with my new friend, Emily. She is....she is impossible to put in to words. After a decade of waiting to have a baby in the first place, we were pretty happy to have Ryan. Understatement. Then, we lost a baby early on in pregnancy. Then came Emily. I could never have imagined her. You'd have to meet her to know what I mean. I saw that little crown-like band of tiny dancing angels around her head the night she was born-and I know now that it wasn't JUST from the pain meds in my IV. =0)

Bye Bye October

Boy, what a Halloween. Ours went on for about a month. Ryan spent countless hours creating a home made, mostly hand drawn Haunted Mansion. This involved almost every room in our house, plus the back yard (the graveyard). I am happy to say it was a success; we had many tours and a total of 31 "foolish mortals" as guests. Ryan was very pleased. Last night he managed to keep on the Jack Skelington costume on just long enough to show a few family memebers, then he was DONE. Emily however, ran around trick or treating with cousin Amber for a long time. Ryan was very diappointed that we had no trick or treaters at our house on Halloween. He is already planning next year's project in his mind: Haunted Mansion Holiday. I hope someday all these creative talents he has will be utilized fully and that he will make millions of dollars so I can get that yacht I've had my eye on

TIME TO MOVE

Guess who lives in our house now? This guy and his buddies. And he is not a small guy. HUGE. Huge.

I found this info on the Web: These large spiders are currently invading the San Francisco area. Native to the Mediterranean region, the colonizing spiders or egg sacs probably traveled to the Bay Area with a furniture shipment or in a vacationer’s suitcase.
